The Secretariat to USM UNESCO Initiatives
The Secretariat to USM UNESCO Initiatives was established in 2012. It was initiated on the request of the National Commission of UNESCO Malaysia(SKUM) as a method for enhancing international exposure of Malaysian university academics. The Secretariat to USM UNESCO Initiativeshas been requested to be to be setup in all Malaysian universities to contribute relevant education and research work. The School of Educational Studies has been given the honour to helm the Universiti Sains Malaysia UNESCO
In general UNESCO initiatives are groups of people of all ages, from all walks of life, who share the UNESCO ideal, seek to disseminate it and associate themselves with the work of the international organisation by undertaking activities directly inspired by those of UNESCO. Although the Initiatives may assume many different forms, they all have something in common: a firm belief in UNESCO’s ideals as set forth in its constitution and a commitment to the principles of the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights.
In particular the roles of the Secretariat to the USM UNESCO Initiatives, in line with UNESCO goals, are: first as the coordinator to all PTJs in USM. Second as the liaison
people with TNC Office and to assist in publisizing PTJ's UNESCO projects or programmes.
